The regional roundtable "Enhancing Gender Equality and Engendering Syrian Crisis Response in Host Countries – Lebanon, Iraq, and Jordan" took place on 4th July 2019 at the Ministry of Social Affairs, Beirut in the presence of H.E. Dr. Richard Kouyoumjian, Minister of Social Affairs, Lebanon. It was held in the frame of the project “Strengthening access to protection, participation, and services for women refugees, internally displaced people (IDPs) and women in the host communities in Lebanon, Jordan and Iraq” funded by the EU, through the EU Regional Trust Fund in Response to the Syrian Crisis, the EU “MADAD” Fund. In his welcome note, H.E. Dr. Kouyoumjian stated that "The Ministry of Social Affairs seeks to achieve gender equality and social justice through the implementation of the National Strategy for Women in Lebanon and to focus on anti-discrimination, especially on gender-based violence, as a priority in its work, programs, and activities."
Ms. Rola Abbas, Program Manager at the EU delegation in Lebanon stressed on “the support of EU to the Social Development Centers through the #MADADforWomen project”
The roundtable gathered the EU Madad consortia members and high-level representatives from relevant ministries and institutions from Lebanon, Jordan, and Iraq. Participants discussed progress made in the implementation of the project, and shared lessons learned and best practices.
