In the frame of the program “Towards sustainable peace and democracy in Syria through strengthening civil society and women rights” funded by Sweden, the Syrian Feminist Lobby and EuroMed Feminist Initiative are organizing a conference “Gender Sensitive Transitional Justice Process in Syria” on 20th and 21st February 2019 in Paris. The objective of this conference is to address the challenges and opportunities for the recognition of gender-based violence, for accountability of the perpetrators and the inclusion of women in the transitional justice process in Syria.
Syrian women’s human rights and women civil society organizations as well as academics and researchers will gather for two days to discuss the following issues:
- The acknowledgement of women’s experience of armed conflict and the recognition of gender specific harms including sexual crimes and other types of crimes in relation to political and socio-economic forms of violence.
- Women’s meaningful participation and role in the transitional justice process and mechanisms and participatory procedures at all stages.
- The opportunity to advocate for redressing structural gender inequalities through transitional justice mechanisms.
