The meeting with the Coordination of the Cross-Sector Task Force (CSTF) 1325 took place on 25th of July 2017 at the President Office Baghdad with the financial support of the British Embassy in Baghdad. It is a regular meeting of the Coordination with a main objective to follow up on the implementation of the Iraqi National Action Plan (NAP) on the United Nations Security Council Resolution (UNSCR) 1325 on women, peace and security, to share latest updates and plan the next steps of the CSTF.

Mr. Amir Kenani, legal advisor to the President of Iraq and Chair of the Legal Committee of the CSTF 1325 and Dr. Ibtisam Aziz, General Director of Iraqi Women Empowerment Department (WED) in the Council of Ministers, welcomed all and introduced the objectives of the meeting. Dr. Aziz shared updates on the latest development in regards to joint communique on sexual violence and the work with the ministerial teams. As a Director of the WED she has contacted the 1325 follow up teams in each ministry and institution form the CSTF and involve some of their members in capacity building trainings with UNAMI.
Ms. Suzan Aref, coordinator of Cross Sector Task Force 1325 in Iraq shared the challenges and achievements of the common work of the CSTF as per the Master Plan 1325.

The Resolution 2367 (2017) that was adopted by the Security Council at its 8003rd meeting on 14 July 2017 was also discussed. The Coordination agreed to respond to the UNSC and will send their memo to the Co-Chairs of the CSTF.

Boriana Jonsson, the Executive Director of Euromed Feminist Initiative (EFI) underlined the EFI commitment and plans for a continuous support to the CSTF. EFI will support the next meeting and conference of the whole CSTF, which will provide space for the ministerial follow-up teams to report on achievements and challenges in the implementation of their 1325 ministerial plans, part of the Master Plan 1325. This meeting will be financially supported by the UK Embassy in Iraq.
During the meeting, the Coordination members were received by Mr. Fuad Masum, the President of Iraq. Mr. Masum underlined his support to the implementation of the NAP 1325 and his particular support to women’s participation in peace building and all fields of decision making. Ms Suzan Aref handed the Master Plan 1325 to Mr. Masum. Later on, Mr. Jamal Fayadh, president’s advisor, joined the coordination meeting.
This was a second meeting of the Coordination of the CSTF with the President of Iraq.
