One year later, EuroMed Feminist Initiative stands in solidarity with the people of Lebanon who are still dealing with the tragic consequences of the August 4, 2020 port blast.
“I live August 4 every day. I feel it every day. We want justice. We want accountability. As women, we are not given our rights, but we demand still, we take to the streets still.
It shocks me that a year has passed; it is not a commemoration, it is an open gushing wound that has yet to heal,” Maya Shatila, member of the families of the August 4 blast victims.
Shatila is one of hundreds of families who lost a loved one to the Beirut blast. Over 217 people lost their lives that day with at least 300,000 displaced. Rights groups and families of the victims are still demanding justice. The Beirut blast remains one of the largest non-nuclear explosions in history.
