Jordan

Aiming to enhance access to quality prevention and protection services for vulnerable communities, particularly women and girls, in Jordan, a national awareness campaign "No Silence, No Tolerance" was launched on 28th of April 2024 by EuroMed Feminist Initiative (EFI), Justice Centre for Legal Aid (JCLA), Children Villages SOS, Institute for Family Health (IFH), and the National Council of Family Affairs (NCFA) in the framework of the project "Improving access to gender-sensitive prevention and protection services for vulnerable communities in Jordan", funded by the European Union and implemented by the Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation (AECID) with the collaboration of the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA).

During the month of May, in the frame of the campaign, three local communities dialogues were organized in Irbid, Zarqa and Tefilah by EFI and project partners CBOs to raise awareness on combating VAWG and to make sure the campaign messages reach local communities. The dialogues enabled local opinion makers, decisionmakers, civil society activists and influencers to come together and further discuss the campaign messages, which emphasize the need to end social tolerance for VAWG in all its formsThe discussions contributed to a wider reach out and spreading information about existing services to victims or women and girls at risk, thus improving access to these services. The dialogues also enabled local communities to propose local solutions to combating VAWG and zero tolerance to it.

Among the main shared recommendations from the three dialogues were those linked to establish integrated service centres offering medical, psychological, legal, and rehabilitation support under one roof (The one-stop approach that would improve access and provide a more coordinated response.) Participants also underlined the need to increase the number of public awareness campaigns in order to challenge social norms that contribute to normalizing violence. Focus was also put on underlying the need to build trust in the intervention system by demonstrating a commitment to ongoing protection and support for survivors.
