EuroMed Feminist Initiative was pleased to invite a delegation of lawyers, journalists, and researchers from Algeria to exchange experiences and share good practices on combating violence against women and girls (VAWG) and enhancing women’s economic participation. The visit provided an opportunity to learn from successful programs and strategies in these areas implemented in Jordan through comprehensive and collaborative approaches.
Minister of Local Administration Eng. Walid Al-Masry welcomed the delegation during their visit to the Greater Jerash Municipality on Thursday, November 23, 2024. The Minister emphasized the government’s commitment to improving municipal performance and enhancing service delivery as part of broader development goals.
The visit included a presentation on the achievements of the municipality’s Women and Development Unit, which, over the past two years, has qualified approximately 560 women through vocational training and supported small business projects in collaboration with the Business Development Corporation (BDC). These efforts have significantly increased women’s participation in community and municipal activities, with special attention to supporting marginalized women by enhancing their skills and connecting them to local institutions.
Accompanied by Ahmad Al-Atoum, Mayor of the Greater Jerash Municipality, members of the Municipal Council, and Representative Hamza Al-Hawamdeh, Minister Al-Masry praised the initiatives as a model for fostering sustainable development and inclusion.
The Algerian delegation commended the tangible impact of the Jerash Municipality’s programs and expressed appreciation for the opportunity to exchange expertise. This collaboration strengthens ties between the two nations and supports innovative approaches to empowering women and advancing community development.
