Training of trainers on VAWG & Gender Advocacy Group Meeting

2023-04-25T21:00:00Z - 2023-04-29T20:30:00Z

From 26th  to 28th April, Musawa organisation,  in collaboration with EuroMed Feminist Initiative along with Zoom In and another Syrian partner, organised a series of online Trainings of Trainers (ToT) across different parts of Syria. The trainings were conducted by the Gender Experts: Maya Rahabi, Dorris Awad and Rouba Ghanem.

The training discussed violence against women and girls (VAWG): how to raise awareness and change public opinion, how to provide services and support especially in conflict areas.

Moreover, the ToT, tackled United Nations Security Council Resolution  (UNSCR) 1325 "Women Peace and Security" and International laws ensuring women's rights. Experts explained the International treaties that are relevant in the Syrian context and that Syria signed.

The Common Agenda was adopted as a tool that is unifying Syrian women’s voices around common analyses and concrete recommendations for actions in the areas of participation, protection, prevention, relief, and recovery, reaffirming the importance of UNSCR 1325 and Women, Peace and Security Agenda together with other international women’s rights instruments.

On 29 April 2023, a Gender Advocacy Group (GAG) online meeting took place. It was the 2nd meeting this year following the meeting that was held in February in France.

Partners involved in the ToT were also involved in the GAG meeting. EuroMed Feminist Initiative welcomed new Syrian participants joining the GAG meeting. The GAG meeting was the occasion to present its members, their role; to exchange about the different kinds of lobbying and the way GAG members should advocate to push forward Common Agenda’s recommendations both at national and international levels.

These activities were organised in the frame of the project “Implementing the Common Agenda to combat VAWG and promote inclusive peace building processes in Syria”, funded by the European Union.
