From the 15th to the 27th of August, EuroMed Feminist Initiative’s Syrian partners Musawa and Zoom In, organised a series of 3 training workshops titled “Local Advocacy for the Common Agenda” part of the project “Implementing the Common Agenda to combat VAWG and promote inclusive peace building processes in Syria”, funded by the European Union.
Each of the 3 workshops was divided into 2 full days of training, spanning over a period of 2-week duration and brought together 64 female participants who attended from different parts of Syria.
The trainings were guided by Musawa and conducted by the Gender experts: Thuraya Hijazi and Khawla Dunia.
The workshops’ main objective was to engage participants to stand against violence against women and girls (VAWG), promote UN Security Council Resolution (UNSCR) 1325 “Women Peace and Security” while using both national and international laws and treaties advocating for women’s rights. The Common Agenda, a tool unifying Syrian women’s voices on the aforementioned topics, was introduced as well to the participants as a core tool for raising awareness and advocating for VAWG.
Moreover, the workshops emphasized the essential roles of advocacy and networking in combating VAWG.
Another important role behind these workshops is to identify and mobilize candidates to lead the upcoming Community-Led Dialogues on VAWG and the Common Agenda in their perspective communities that will be taking place during the month of September.
