Malika Berak is a seasoned French diplomat, born in Angers. She completed her primary and secondary education at Condorcet School and Joachim du Bellay High School in Angers. She holds a Bachelor of Arts from the Sorbonne, a diploma from Sciences Po Paris, and an advanced degree in Classical Arabic from the National Institute of Oriental Languages and Civilizations (INALCO). Her career at the French Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs included several strategic roles in the North Africa and Middle East division. From 1983 to 1985, she served as Second and then First Secretary at the French Embassy in Syria. Between 1985 and 1989, she was Diplomatic Adviser at the Arab World Institute. She then served as Second Counselor at the French Embassy in Egypt from 1989 to 1991. From 1991 to 1995, she worked as Cultural and Cooperation Counselor in Jerusalem. From 1995 to 2000, she served as Deputy Director of Institutional Cooperation (International Cooperation and Development). Between 2000 and 2004, she was appointed Ambassador of France to Bahrain, followed by her role as Ambassador to the Sultanate of Oman from 2004 to 2008. She served as Ambassador in charge of Mediterranean Cooperation from 2008 to 2012, and as Ambassador of France to Tanzania from 2012 to 2014.
